In the UK sunny weather is celebrated, until we start complaining about how hot we are, our well insulated homes and asking ‘how long is it until Christmas?’
It’s July (I know, already!?) and the hottest weather for the UK tends to be between July – August. It doesn’t last long, therefore we have to take advantage of it when we can. Especially as a few days of sun is often interrupted with downpours of rain and cloudy days thereafter.
For me, comfortable clothing is a must in summer. I tend to experiment more in warmer weather with mixing styles and colours together. I try to do the majority of my clothes shopping online as I’m more likely to make rash decisions when in shopping in store. I like to keep my summer wardrobe quite clean and simple. Some of my favourite high street stores for summer are ASOS, Mango, New Look, River Island and Zara.
I have listed below the elements to this outfit and my perfect summer staples. This is a typical outfit for me in warmer weather when I’m out and about. Nothing too dressy, but not too casual.
When dressing for warm and sunny summer days, light weight clothing is my go-to. This Zara top is a firm favourite of mine. It’s lightweight but covering, the sleeves adding protection from the sun and summer breezes. I adore the White detailing to the bottom of the sleeves. I have a collection of Zara tops that are perfect for warmer days. They are just so good at light weight fabrics! If it’s a really warm day and sleeves are just not happening, swap for a cami top or breathable t-shirt.
When its shorts weather (basically the sun comes out) throw on a pair of your favourite shorts for an instant summery look. I love denim and these Levi’s shorts are no exception. For me, they are the perfect colour to compliment my summer wardrobe. The best thing is, I can swap and change to almost any top in my wardrobe and they will compliment them.
These beauties are from Zara. I purchased them on a whim towards the end of last year and I completely fell in love with them. I paired them with my denim shorts to dress the outfit up a little. If I had of been wearing this outfit the entire day and doing a lot of walking I would swap these for a pair of Zara sandals I have in a similar colour (with a lower/chunkier heel for more comfort). Luckily, I knew I wouldn’t be walking too far on this occasion so decided to go for the heels!
I wanted to keep this outfit more daytime/casual, so opted to dress down the heels with an oversized bag. Louis Vuitton is a classic brand for me, their bags (and other items) are incredible and I find them to be the most hard wearing bags I own. I especially like the Neverfull style like this one in the classic Monogram canvas. For me this is a casual/day bag and I can fit the whole world in it if I need to. As the bag itself is lightweight, its perfect for on-the-go days where you need to carry more but don’t want to be weighed down, (also perfect for travelling).
I don’t need a belt for this particular pair of shorts, but when does that ever stop me? This Gucci belt was crying out for me to wear it and has been since I purchased it a few weeks ago. I adore this shade of brown, it’s perfect for any time of year but for me it just works so well in warmer months.
The finishing touches
My favourite colour is Turquoise, its also my birthstone. So really, it was a no brainer when I saw this ring. It’s by Kenneth Jay Lane and I fell head over heels with it as soon as I tried it on. Paired with my Turquoise Monica Vinader Linear Stone bracelet, they make the perfect duo! I love playing around with bright and colourful jewellery in summer and feel that it really finishes off an outfit. I finished off this look with my gold Michael Kors necklace, Pandora rings and Pandora bracelet.
Other suggestions for summer clothing are plain tees, floaty dresses (again lightweight), cross body bags (practical and no fuss) and statement sandals. I like to choose carefully so I can get the same items out year after year, adding to my collection with the occasional new purchase when something takes my fancy. My summer wardrobe often merges with my holiday wardrobe, as I try to choose items I can wear in the UK, but would also like to take abroad with me when travelling to hotter climates. The best part is, there are no rules! Mix and match to your hearts content and find your unique style.
What are your favourite summer staples? Do you have a go-to store for the warmer months?
