Back in December (2018) I purchased my latest bag, a Gucci Soho Disco in Black. I can’t tell you how long I have wanted one, at least a few years. I’m also more than considering one or two more in future in other colours (but we will leave that there for now). I decided to write a post on my first impressions, along with my thoughts on it now I have used it for almost three months.
It’s a lovely looking bag, let’s get that out of the way first. If you’re not into Gucci bags or the Soho Disco in particular then it’s likely you won’t agree, but I think it’s classic Gucci. This bag has been available for years and there’s no sign of it going anywhere any time soon. I like that the gold hardware is pale and minimal (on the zip and attached zip tassel) rather than on the Gucci logo itself as it’s fairly understated. The leather is textured yet soft to touch, but not super smooth enough to scratch easily. I decided on black because I wanted it to be an everyday, one hundred percent useful bag. I wear black more than any other colour so it was an easy decision. I have absolutely no signs of wear on mine as of yet and I have worn it almost constantly since purchasing it. I do look after my things and as a general rule I’d say I’m very careful, but that’s still pretty good considering how much it’s been worn already.
One thing this bag definitely is, is practical. Yes it’s clearly a small bag so you won’t fit the whole world inside it, but you might be surprised how much does fit in there. I can easily fit my phone, a small bag/pouch of make up (lipstick, lip liner, face powder and a small-ish brush), a little pack of tissues (an essential in every bag, I find), keys, my card holder (I could fit my purse instead if needed), and I’ve even fitted a small bottle of water into it before. It’s quite boxy so fairly spacious, but not bulky due to the material used. It’s cross body so really easy to wear, secure and you have both hands free. The inside lining of the bag is a light coloured canvas. This is a good and bad thing I suppose – light colours can be tricky to keep clean (hence why I use a pouch or bag for make up) but canvas is also a relatively hardy material and you can easily see into the bag to find what you are looking for. For reference, mine still looks brand new inside so far. The strap is adjustable which is ideal, it’s also soft so you can wear it for hours with no shoulder aches or pains. It’s incredibly easy to style (black goes with everything) and it looks great dressed up or down. My favourite way of wearing it is more casual with a t-shirt, blazer, trainers and jeans.
In summary, it’s a great bag and I have surprised myself with how much I reach for it. I knew I would wear it a lot but I’m at the point where I am telling myself to stop using it every day and change it up a little! I have included some outfit photos below to show how I’ve been wearing it. For lots more images please check out my Instagram page as it’s where I post most often. I’ve also linked my bag and where I purchased it from, along with some other colour options. Any questions as always feel free to leave a comment and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Hopefully this post has been useful, I couldn’t recommend the Gucci Soho Disco more and look forward to styling it as the weather warms up a little for spring.
